As someone who lost their father and has a grandfather who doesnt seem to give a tenth of a shit about the family he left behind, I think he’s a great father in law and grandfather to want to help as much as he does. Mike, though, while he does care about his family, doesn’t seem to take their feelings much into consideration; he buries himself in his grief, as Blondies Heart of Glass shirt  was the only one suffering from his son’s death, while there is also Stacey. I get that he doesn’t like the questions that Stacey asked, nevertheless, she definitely had a right to know about all of it and, since Matty has been dead for at least a year, I think, when Mike finally tells Stacey the truth, it meant that he was withholding that information from her during all that time; her questions about Matty’s highly emotional phone call in the middle of the night, the abrupt arrival of a big amount of cash little before his murder, and then his two partners getting killed as well just a few months later, must have been driving her crazy. She must’ve been asking Mike countless questions, that he all refused to answer, or lied about, and Stacey often seems very cautious about what she says around Mike, as if she was worried he was going to lose it if she said the wrong thing. I think that’s a good indicator of what he’s been like during all that time – acting as if Matty’s death had caused pain to only him. And it hints that it’s not the first time he gets mad at her for asking perfectly valid questions.Thank you for thinking that my take on Mike should have its own post – I wasn’t sure if it was worth making a different post on that, and I felt that this and the situation with the lab are related, since the latter is in part also about Mike’s shortcomings. I’ll just leave my post like it is now, though.And yes, the series does a great job of showing characters struggling to cope with major emotional shocks.
