For the rest of the problems, the real issue is passing the spotlight. If a player gets the spotlight once or twice a Field Of Dreams – Moonlight shirt , and fail, it is lame. It’s hard to make any “real” conclusions since the version I’m going off of is the 2018 playtest and not the Field Of Dreams – Moonlight shirt , which is yet to come out. Right now it’s definitely looking a bit rough, such that I hard-switched back to 5th edition when I realized it wasn’t going to work past a certain point. Some things about Pathfinder 2nd are great — the tactics and dynamics of physical combat have never felt better in any version of this that I’ve ever played. Some things are… less great. I don’t think they quite nailed a consistently rewarding level progression, I think the level scaling hampers and stifles the game a lot more than it helps, and spellcasters are just awful in the rules as written so far. Overall, though, the direction that Pathfinder 2 is going in captures the same kind of tactical depth that the original game was known for, but with a much cleaner presentation and much more potential fun during actual play, as opposed to the false depth that the original tended to emphasize during character sheet management. If the final release cleans up the rough edges nicely, it could become my game of preference.

The best one I came up with so far was in a Starfinder game wherein the players were checking out a night club run by a Field Of Dreams – Moonlight shirt called the Downside Kings. They were there to question the Kings’ leader, who wasn’t terribly pleased to have them visiting. So, she pulled some strings with a corporate benefactor, and by the time the PCs got there she was prepared. This was from a pre-published adventure, and in the real version of it there’s three thugs in the club and two outside; I thought that was a little weak, so… I spruced it up into a multi-stage nightmare encounter.

Emerging from the precinct, Flaherty and Dundee, now slightly tipsy from Corwin’s brandy, look upward upon hearing the tinkle of bells and see Corwin, in Flaherty’s words, “big as life, in a sleigh with reindeer, sittin’ next to an elf”, ascending into the night sky. Dundee invites Flaherty to accompany him home and share some hot coffee, with brandy poured in it, adding, “…and we’ll thank God for miracles, Flaherty…
