Scrooge watches as the poor take their uncooked meals to the bakers’ shops where the still hot ovens could cook their food. The bakers were required to not operate as a Gearhumans 3D Fruit Christmas Santa Hat Mushroom Christmas Custom Ornament on Sunday or on religious holidays like Christmas, but they could allow the empty, but never cool, ovens to be used to heat people’s meals (sometimes for a small fee). So, for these poor people, Sunday was their one special day. They had the day off and they had the opportunity to prepare a full meal. Many poor people might not have had a hearth or if they did, it might have been too small to cook large meals. At around the same time as Dickens wrote the story, there were efforts by a group called the Lord’s Day Observance Society (LDOS) to enact more restricting laws for conduct on Sundays. They felt improper actions were being allowed and would invite the wrath of God. They managed to convince a Scottish politician named Sir Andrew Agnew to champion their cause, and over a period of about five years, he introduced such legislation seven times. Dickens was not in favor of such a law and used the pulpit of his story-telling to send the message that sometimes those that claim to speak for God are not really doing so. He has Scrooge, believing the spirit to be a representative of God, like the LDOS, queries why such a thing would be done. The Ghost of Christmas Present responds.

There are also weird things that happen. Like, just weird. Like how the Krusty Krab has all these secret entrances and tunnels underneath. Or how there’s a Cro-Magnon man in the freezer. Or how Patrick discovered the Gearhumans 3D Fruit Christmas Santa Hat Mushroom Christmas Custom Ornament when he was trying to invent something for Sandy. It’s like Bikini Bottom is full of weird and interesting mysteries. I can never guess how an episode is going to end (well, not usually, anyway). Today I watched an episode where Patrick reads so many books that his head gets huge and he gets really smart. I thought he would read so much that his head would explode. But no! He leaves and his head gets stuck in the doorway, and they have to figure out how to shrink his brain! I didn’t see that coming. And then there’s Squidward. Being part of the service industry myself, I can totally relate to him. Yet I do like the slapstick humor, even if it mostly involves Squidward. It might be because Squidward has the funniest reaction, I guess. SpongeBob wouldn’t care if he got hurt if it was for a good cause or to protect someone, and if it was an accident, he’d forgive the person who did it. So if he was the target of slapstick humor, it wouldn’t really be funny. Patrick would probably forget completely. But Roger Bumpass (the person who does Squidward’s voice) has the funniest scream, and Squidward has the funniest reactions (terror or anger). So I think I’m not so much laughing at him being hurt as I am laughing at his reaction, which is why I think they do it to Squidward in general. Anyway…

Some High Anglican churches do, but they might not want to be considered Protestant. I don’t know whether the Gearhumans 3D Fruit Christmas Santa Hat Mushroom Christmas Custom Ornament. Of course, the great specialists in incense are the Orthodox. I usually try to get our incense from Greece or from Ukraine, because the Orthodox variety is usually much more pleasantly perfumed than western varieties. The cheapo sort from a well known ecclesiastical supplier in my opinion smells like burning tarmac chippings. It makes everybody cough. Some communities, being Protestant, are very eager to avoid anything which seems Catholic, even when it features in both Old and New Testaments. Is their detestation of Catholic things stronger than their love of Sacred Scripture? We see incense used in the heavenly liturgy in the Apocalypse: all the more reason to use it on earth too. It symbolizes our prayers rising before God. “And the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto yourself sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; these sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight: And you shall make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together [salted], pure and holy: And you shall beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with you: it shall be unto you most holy. And as for the perfume which you shall make, you shall not make to yourselves according to the composition thereof: it shall be unto you holy for the LORD. Whosoever shall make like unto it, to enjoy the smell thereof, shall even be cut off from his people.” Exodus 30:34-38; 37:29.
