I went the entire last week without getting Piplup. Put out lures near water, incense near water, and went through at least a dozen “Grave diggers T-Shirt ” and nada. I’ve been playing and occasionally paying since week one. Some anniversary. Feh.For me it was Chikorita, last day i spent sitting in my office with two lures up and incense going and still got nothing. I spun every stop I could find, maybe 1 in 10 had the task, I am so tired of these stupid useless AR scanning tasks clogging up stops. Finally with an hour left, the last task I was able to find gave me one.What angers me the most is that Chikorita are not rare around here, I am not tripping over them but they are certainly not as rare as they were during this. Some people like to point out it was a “challenge” so it should be hard. However, a challenge is something that can be accomplished with hard work alone, this was 90% luck. If they had been in 1* raids it might be different but relying on a 33% chance from a task you have a 10% chance of getting is not a challenge, its gamblingThis was a badly designed event for sure. I got lucky finding out the Turtwig on day three, but I had to drive around my city for all pokestops to get the right research quest.It would have worked better if only starters spawned, rather than dilute the spawns with common crap.I’m a casual player. I only put serious effort into the game when there’s an event like this. So I’m not necessarily mad that I couldn’t complete it.But what sucks is that it wasn’t fun. I like these collection challenges because they’re fun! “Let me walk to the park and see if I can knock out some of these Pokémon I need.” I felt like this one was such a drag and it’s a shame.
