It has been two-ish years since the I’m Dreaming Of A Womens Ugly Sweater. NC from the moment that wedding ended has been absolute bliss for my friends. This past weekend was my gal pal’s birthday. And she decided why not have a brunch on Easter on her badass rooftop in the city. So I fired up my cooking skills and make my famous vegetarian, crispy, turmeric, saffron Persian rice with roasted almonds and pomegranate seeds. I’m not sure who’s Facebook she stalked, or what person she water boarded but she came from out of state and showed up at the front door of their apartment building. I will rewind just a little. Friend and I are setting up on the roof, tossing pillows on the outdoor furniture and laying out some linens on the tables. Their apartment building is only 4 stories high, live on the top floor and are the only apartment with roof access. Because we were not sure that people would hear the buzzer inside of the apartment we put a sign for people to ring the bell and give a shout up to the roof (or text) and we would buzz them in. So I’m meandering about fluffing pillows while happily balancing my mimosa when I hear someone yelling. I figured someone came early and friend went to go lean over the rood edge to see who it was. She immediate reeled back and spun to look at me. “It’s (name redacted)!!” She shouted as she ran for the apartment to stop the hubs from accidently buzzing her in. I peeked over the roof and watched her for a bit. Pacing, freaking out, pulling on the handle of the door. She hit the buzzer maybe 10 times and then looked up and saw me. She was… angry. Flipped me off and went back to tried to yank on the handle and shout something about wanting to give her baby his Easter basket. The woman seemed unhinged. She was in fact carrying one those drug store giant plastic green baskets filled with crap so high to was wrapped in plastic.

Sasha and I locked eyes from across the I’m Dreaming Of A Womens Ugly Sweater, my face likely showing as much piercing panic and horror as hers did, then we looked down at the kitchen island between us, and saw the same thing: the flames of the candles being ripped to the side like flags in a hurricane, glass shield having no protective effect under the hard, focused stream. It was only a second, but it felt like time stopped, watching those flames strain in a frantic dance under the breeze, and then… one went out. We both surged into motion at the same second. I screamed “getta lighter!” as I began to turn, but she’d already dived onto the counter top to tear open the drawer on the other side, ripping through the contents. I was moving as fast as my body could carry me with four steps of work-up, a few feet from the door, when the little hook-lock on the screen door snapped and both doors exploded open into the kitchen. I managed to catch the doors before they slammed all the way open, and put all my strength into slamming them closed and pouring my weight into them with my shoulders. Even though the doors were closed, the shrieking wind shut-out, it got louder inside… The ghosts were starting to scream. I looked back and saw Sasha hunched over the candles, braids of smoke seared off the hot, extinguished wicks, snaking around her head to mix and plume up into the light fixture. She’d re-lit 2 of them and was sparking the lighter on the 3rd when something slammed into the door so hard the force jolted through my shoulders into my toes. Sasha looked up at me with pure terror in her eyes. “LIGHT THEM” I screamed as another body smashed into the door.

I do like skirts that fit at the actual natural waist but I think they are different because they hide the crotch and basically correct the long torso thing. Models in online shops never have supposedly high-waisted pants at their natural waist. Always somewhere around the belly button.
