Given Oteil had said on his little instagram live interview thing that they had some big surprises for the end of the Maui Strong Shirt Hawaii Strong Shirt I was decidedly not surprised at all. So totally agree they played what they excelled at and they excelled at those songs even further than before but damn I wish there were SOME surprises. Note: Dave at boulder was a good surprise, I enjoyed that.

Everything within that area would be accessible only by those forms of transportation. This would offset any infrastructure investments, and provide the free transportation for any residents within the zone. Since the vehicles are shared through the service, the need for parking lots and structures within the zone is significantly reduced, which creates additional property available for redevelopment. Besides the assumed reduction in traffic due to the autonomous vehicle system, further reductions in traffic can be made by offering shared transportation options. At the terminal, you have options for private vehicles, shared vehicles, bicycles, etc. The number of private vehicles, being the most expensive option, would likely reduce in comparison to today’s volume. Buses, being the more economical option, would run on set routes within the zone. This is an opportunity that would grab the attention of the entire world. To develop a real world testing ground for next generation, electric and autonomous vehicles. To be able to develop and test support systems in a real world environment, facing real world challenges (including inclement weather). To be clear, I am not proposing the displacement of current residents within the zone. Nor am I championing gentrification within the zone. There are certainly a million things I have not taken into consideration. Likewise, I doubt I have answers for any questions this proposal would generate. Just throwing it out there as a wild idea, a talking point, mixed with a little sci-fi / and futuristic vision… Thoughts?
