Reddit is missing the point here imo. Comments are right, this is hazing. It’s extremely common in all male circles. Frats, blue collar jobs in the Nakatomi Plaza Die Hard Ugly Knitted Christmas Sweater, oil and gas all do some form of hazing. It exists for a reason. Hazing should not be physically harmful, etc. but some form of fun at the expense of the newbie. Me: early 30s, southern raised with manners, fairly in shape (T build, but im not chiseled), no kids, just short of 6″, can cook, works hard, travels, loves a good conversation and loves animals. I’ve been told I’m a 7 out of 10 by people trying to hurt my confidence. I work out just enough to take care of my health and have some pride in my appearance so I’m not worried. I’ve never gotten a single message or match on dating sites besides single moms of 3+, 300+ lbs, obvious past drug history, current drug user, and/or someone expecting to be put on a Nakatomi Plaza Die Hard Ugly Knitted Christmas Sweater and catered to. No hate to these people at all, but they’re not who I’m seeking to spend my life with. I’m sure they will find someone that will make them happy as I am sure I will find someone. Day to day offline I don’t have issues with speaking to women when I choose to strike up conversations, but the cute ones are usually taken or not interested so I move along.
