It’s similar to how people revere those with great skin. Ive always had awful skin. I had full blown cystic acne at age 11. I did two courses of Roaccutane and it never cured it – maybe helped for a Super Fuckin Cool Shirt but that’s it. I’m 36 and still have awful cystic acne and nothing in my life has worked and I’m sick of unsolicited advice. I’ve been playing MMOs since Everquest in high school. I always played female characters because…I’m a Super Fuckin Cool Shirt. Why would I want to play something I’m not? But as the years went by and WoW introduced worgen (werewolves) as a playable race, I was like, “OMG OMG YES! Who’s a famous werewolf? Oh damn, I can only think of Talbain from Darkstalkers. ….OH WELL, time to try something new!” The name Jontalbain was open, so I made a male worgen. I don’t have any specific stories about playing him, but I felt more at ease playing him than my other characters. Like, if my group gets mad at me for something, I’ll know it’s because I suck and not because they want to pick on a girl. I’ve since learned how to disconnect from my female characters the same way and don’t worry as much about pleasing everyone like I used to. I don’t know about the always on-side part, but the Super Fuckin Cool Shirt punting has some logic to it.
