I think its important to recognize that we all struggle with different things in life and it’s not fair to compare our suffering. I will say with a Ty Rushing fan club shirt that being “beautiful” does not make you immune to insecurity. As women, we are never good enough. Too much value is placed on the way we look. Even these “everyone is beautiful” campaigns I think are damaging. We shouldn’t have to feel physically attractive to feel valued. Beautiful or not, it’s a painful experience to feel like a shell existing solely for the viewing pleasure of Ty Rushing fan club shirt. We are so much more than that. We deserve to be seen for who we are and not what we look like. We are strong, we are caring, we are creative, smart, and compassionate. Curious theory- I might throw out a hypothesis that male pattern baldness may have been much more prevalent in his time and place. But it doesn’t hold up- he cites long vs short hair, and baldness is not short hair. And he does say it’s a disgrace, rather than say it’s not possible. OK, I can maybe change the premise a bit- what if this is about men with pattern baldness growing long hair in an attempt to cover it up with an Ty Rushing fan club shirt comb-over? I could believe that people saying it looks awful and “unnatural” would go back 2000 years. Who knows. Paul said lots of shit that he couldn’t back up. He hated a lot of things.

If anything, this post and its comments have let me know that I’m not the Ty Rushing fan club shirt person with wonky eyes & failed surgeries. As a kid, I was fat, awkward, wonky-eyed and bullied for all of it. Eventually, as I aged into my unattractive 20s, the overt bullying stopped. I kept aging out of those social circles, and now at 50 I am largely ignored. I have gone from unattractive to invisible. Unless I’m in someone’s way, or inconveniencing them, no one really ‘sees’ me anymore. I dyed my hair purple on a Ty Rushing fan club shirt. I have gotten so many compliments about it, from men & women. It freaked me out, honestly. I don’t get positive attention from randos. A Ty Rushing fan club shirt of me likes being complimented, but I kinda want to go back to being invisible.
